Elementary Director or Directress
Due to the expectation of continued demand for a third Lower
Elementary environment in 2008-09, and quite possibly a second
Upper Elementary environment a year or two later, we are soliciting
applications from elementary trained Montessori teachers. New
environments will begin with approximately eight 1st Year students
and one full-time trained teacher. The next year there will be
1st and 2nd year students, and the third year the environment
will be fully sized, with two trained teachers and approximately
8 students in each of the three years of the cycle.
MCS seeks skilled Montessorians devoted to children and eager
to be an active member in a close community dedicated to providing
a top quality authentic Montessori experience for children. We
have very strong parent support from a parent body that believes
in the Montessori philosophy and supports the teachers through
a positive active parent organization, the MCA. Elementary training
from a strong training center is clearly preferred, as well as
enthusiasm for co-teaching in future years. Primary training is
a plus.
MCS offers highly competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits
package. Our salaries are in the top 10% of all Montessori schools
reporting in the NAMTA survey. The benefits package includes health,
dental, and a generous tuition remission for faculty children.
The Chapel Hill/Durham area, only a short drive from Raleigh,
the state capital, is a wonderful place to live. Many of our faculty
live in genuinely rural settings within easy commuting distance.
Others live within walking distance of the campus of UNC-Chapel
Hill. A university town hst an immense variety of activities,
movie theaters, dramatic and musical productions, and restaurants
with every kind of menu. This is simply a great place to live
and work.
In addition, we are always happy to talk with Montessori-trained
teachers, teachers beginning their training, or candidates interested
in a future opening for Assistant.

Primary Program Director or Directress
At the end of this school year, Anne Berry will retire. The position
of Primary Program Director involves supporting the Toddler and
Primary (3-6) teachers and children by providing curriculum oversight,
working with parents to resolve any misunderstandings, ordering
materials, taking the lead on any new hiring, being familiar with
Day Care regulations, and other responsibilities typical of a
full-time administrative position in a Montessori school. The
Primary Program Director is a key member of the administrative
leadership team, but skill in working collaboratively is essential
because we are the kind of community that values communication
and respects each person's expertise.
Clearly this position calls for an experienced Montessorian with
Primary 3-6 training. Prior administrative experience is a decided
plus, but not a requirement. One must be devoted to children and
eager to be an active member in a close community dedicated to
providing a top quality authentic Montessori experience for children.

Middle School Math
MCS seeks a full-time math teacher for the Adolescent Program.
This full-time position involves working with up to 30 students
in a flexible individualized integrated math program. The successful
candidate will love the middle school (grades 7 & 8) age young
adult, enjoy the challenge of reaching individual students who
are independent and eager to learn. The math program is integrated
with the science and humanities programs, which provides many
real-life contexts for lessons about math skills. The ability
to try different approaches to reach individuals, to communicate
respectfully and convey clear expectations to this age learner,
and the ability to act as an advisor as well as communicate successfully
with parents are all important skills.
